boy bob that is a pretty tractor I wish I could get a 2nd one mine is green & a little smaller but by the same company: very nice runner from MY standpoint /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif must have been somethign done wrong if it was making so much noise as mine is a nice 3 cyl diesle sounding enigne even when she was running a bit warm as I forgot to check her out yesterday when I fired her up form 3 months of setting the rad was a bit low and rototilled in high range the garden turned up nicely I might add.

SPIKER and frank_f15, it was just my guess that Mike was referring to the Jinma only because I have never seen any diesel powered Husqvarnas populating the lots of the farm stores. I have seen Jinmas. And there are obviously orange ones.

I guess we'll all have to wait for Mike to tell us . . . or keep the mystery to himself.

I said I saw one. In fact it was parked on US41 outside of Cedar Lake, IN for the better part of last summer until someone finally bought it. And I never said they were in their right mind when they painted it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif And the really sad thing is, it certainly appeared to have been a factory paint job. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Some of the Farmtracs or Landtracs that I saw were a rather bluish/purple color. I thought is looked pretty cool actually.
I think they changed it though. Not a REAL purple, but that's what came to mind when I first saw it. John

I guess the moral of my story is any kind of dealer at all would have done a better job at prepping a tractor than the farm store workers seem to. I am sure if all of them sounded this bad SPIKER would tell us.

Cause it was a 20 HP 2WD FarmPro Jinma. $2495. And, /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gifWWLL my ears still hurt!

And the Jinmas were red that day; but the last batch WAS orange....

Some years back we bought a Chinese built tractor from Quality Farm & Fleet.

They most likely didn't know beans about it either but it didn't matter cause they went out of business anyway.

I still don't sell an import short as we used the crap out of the Chinese tractor for 5 years before we sold it and it was always a strong running machine.

I think there are a few lemons out there in all colors and flavors.

I agree with PineRidge that you get bad and good in anything. In the last 30 years or so I have had several diesels. All were purchased new and were never babied at anytime not even when new. Of all these I think the old China diesel has the best sound of all them. Its slow reving diesel has unreal pulling power. Like i've said on these forums for a couple years now these tractors are improving very quickly and will surprise you if you ever work one. Most of the people that complain about them don't even own one /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Or how about any of the wonderful Yanmar 2 cylinder engines that have been powering some great little tractors for years. They call it that Yanmar hammer, because of the noise, but man oh man, they've been good engines.
What's a little noise when you consider that it's said that a 2cl engine has more torque than a 3cyl that may be quieter?
That tractor probably is inherently noisy, but I bet it's a great puller. John

Bob, I've heard it from a pretty reliable source that Bransons "rattle" pretty good, too. It would be interesting to know what design feature makes them so noisy when others are much more quiet. I've been told that fuel timing can have a lot to do with the noise level. It doesn't seem to negatively effect long-term operation of the tractor, but some are obviously noisier than others. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Jim, yesterday afternoon my daughter was singing in the church chior with the daughter of the local Branson/New Holland mechanic. He and I got to talking afterwards and he mentioned he was not impressed with the Bransons. Their dealership has only sold a few of them, he thinks only 5 since they got the brand about 6 (?) months ago. But his criticism was not based on any noise or sound, it was the rough castings, the crude ergonomics, etc. This guy is an immigrant from Sweden and said the Bransons look a lot like the old Russian/East Block tractors, stout, basic and unfinished. Now my impression of them is not nearly that bad. I agree that they have ergonomics that could be improved, but the finish didn't look that bad. I guess I didn't really look at the metal castings, I mostly looked at the operator platform. Anyway, he said that the Bransons were a lot like the old tractors from the 50's and 60's (and since so many of those are still around, that can't be such a bad thing!).

I can certainly hear the difference between the Kubota engine, it seems smooth through its entire RPM range. The little 24hp engine in my NH has a few areas where it could be smoother (lower RPMs), but as the RPMs pick up it purrs like the Kubota.

I tend to think that most any engine could be improved upon.

I talked with my buddy this AM. We both agree that it is far more than a "smoother sounding Kubota vs a little rougher Shibaura" or even "two cylinder vs. three" He ownd a 1950's era JD with a 2 cylinder Detroit diesel, and a Kub. I have ha a couple of 3 cylinder Yanmars, my FIL has a 2 cylinder yanmar. It may knock a little.

But these beasts sounded like the were falling apart. It may even have beeen transmission noises. I really don't have the time to mess with this, but I may try and shop them to see if I can find out what exactly the racket is.

Bob, did you know that Oliver had a purple tractor once? I think it was an 1800 or 1850. They were using it as a demonstration only for their plows, to show that it did not matter what color your tractor was, it would work with an Oliver plow. None were sold that way though.
