I am a traditionalist in many regards. Meaning I don't like change. My father has a PHD (N. Physics, not MD). Traditional hard schooled, no rule breaking family. Pessimist and skeptic degrees since birth. I say this as a perspective.

I don't know about the above technology. I would be skeptical. But..... what if it does work ? and ....

I have experience with a close friend. He was a Marine, and had no health problems. Literally couldn't even recall him having a sniffle much less a cold. Then one day he goes in and finds cancer. (7 years ago). He is diagnosed with prostate cancer, and liver (I forget which organ) cancer (?). Anyway he had two cancers at one time. They start treatment and he caught pneumonia (sp?). In the treatment of one the had to let the other run its course. Something about medicines not interacting well. To say the least when he got done with this ordeal he was weak drained and had Death Certificate in the Doctor's office with his name, waiting to fill in a day and time. Month was already taken care of according to the Doctor.

He decided if Doctors wouldnt do anyhtnig but say you are going to do, he would do something. He searched the US and Europe looking at herbalists. Finally choose one in Canada and flew up there.

7 years latter, he takes many herbs, is healthy and still struggles. Maybe traditional medicine saved him. Maybe not. Maybe herbs helped, maybe not....

Do you want to beat? I won't not with my life. I think if I see the need for more healing power I would go for it.

and besides, dont many of the drugs in this world come from plants... hmmm... what are herbs. Last time I checked plants classified as have a medicinal purpose.

Just my two cents...

(and I have never been to an herbalist, course I dont like the Doctor much either).

Interesting thread.

The marine with cancer example is very good at showing us what the will to live can do. I agree that we don't know what is keeping him alive, but the health benifits of herbs and a healthy diet along with a positive attitude can and will have a positive effect.

I'm not questioning the benifits of plants, nor the results they give us.

I understand that medicines are made from just about everything. From metals, to plants and animals. If it works, then it's being used. I also understand that there are tens of thousands of scientist researching everything on the planet to find cures for just about everything.

Two issues come to mind.

One. If a common herb worked, why doesn't a multi billion dollar company that makes it's money of cures for people market this herb? It's kind of like the diet pills that come out every year. They are always from some other country and are new to the US. Guranteed to lose weight and all that. Of course, none of them do anything, but people spend billions on them. When a real diet pill comes along that actually works, then you can bet every dime you have that it will be major news!!! Not some secrete from Europe or something like that.

Two. The method described to find out what was wrong strikes me as silly. It's kind of like a fortune teller or palm reader. They start out the the basics that apply to most everyone and then feed on their replies. One of the medical problems that was mentioned was a lack of energy. Doesn anybody here have enough energy????? If we were to come up with a list of common things we all would like to fix, energy would be right at the top of the list. Aches and pains, sleep, weight ..... The list goes on and on.

I think the reason people believe in alternative medicines isn't that they work, but because it's an option to the reality of what they have or need to do in order to get better. Just off the top of my head, I bet 80 percent of all medical issues are a result of being overweight. The doctor says to lose 50 pounds. Simple cure to simple problems. Of course, nobody who's 50 pounds overweight wants to admit it, nor can they easily lose the weight. The options of alternative medicine and quick cures.

Sorry for being so blunt, I'm not trying to be rude or insulting, but it's one of those topics that bring out the soapbox for me.

Durbob,
I want to urge you to proceed with caution. My 38 yar old sister in law had stomach pains and her doctor was not getting at the problem. Rather than go for a second or third opinion she went to a "healer" actually the family jsut called him the voodoo doctor. She always felt so much better after her visits, but funny things the pains in her stomach eventually came back.
sadly my sister in law died of stomach cancer at 38 years old leaving a 16 year old daughter a 14 year old son and a 5 year old son.

If she would not have gone to the voodoo doctor and would have sought out licensed professional medical care she would have lived.

Are you willing to bet your life on this "new technology?" Not asking the question to be confrontational, just asking you to think it over fully and cinsider the consequences.

If the machines says your adrenal glans are shot, will you then go to a medical doctor and check this out?

Curt,
The reason the cranberry juice worked is that it made your urine more acidic, and the little critters. It is harder for them to survive in that kind of enviornment. There are a lot of drugs out there that started out being made from plants, asprin/willow bark, morphine/poppies etc.

Used to be a LPN until I discovered I preferred working with numbers more than people.

Eddie:

I happen to agree with most of what you have said however,"If a common herb worked, why doesn't a multi billion dollar company that makes it's money of cures for people market this herb? ", the question can be anwered this way. Profit! If the drug cannot be patented and is readily available in a standard form there is no way the company is going to spend millions getting FDA approval.

Also, the pharmaceutical cos. are constantly pushing the Dr's to prescribe their products. Their marketing practices are absolutely reprehensible. More testing is done on the patient than in the laboratory. "let's see if this works, he only has a $3 co-pay, and besides we've nearly used up his 5 minute office visit limit"

If doctors would be doctors and not just pill pushers and assembly line workers perhaps more people would be give creedance to their suggestions / recommendations.

Sorry, personal soapbox also. Having said all the above, there are some things that just shout "Snake Oil!!"

Adron,

I understand what your saying, and even agree with your reasononing about the herbs being unpatentable. But Herbs are used in medicine in a refined state to get the maximine benifit from them. The companies that sell these herbs, make a profit because they've figure out how to maximise the usefull properties of the herbs. Same with everything else they come up with.

As for doctors pushing pills to make the drug companies happy, I have my doubts. I don't know any doctors as friends, so I can't speak for them, but I know three different drug reps who spend their days selling drugs to doctors. It's an open market and the sales reps have a product to sell. Which ones the doctors chose to sell depends on there way of doing business, but the bottom line is still getting people healthy. Several drugs from different companies will do the job, so the doctor has a choice. Profit is part of that I'm sure, but if his patients aren't getting better, then he's not going to be around very long either.

I may be niave, but I don't think there are very many doctors out there just in it for the money. They make a decent living, no doubt, but the ones trying to make people healthy could be making allot more money doing other things.

I believe medical doctors are the only reliable source for medical treatment. I also feel that as a group, they do a great job and truly care for patients.

I feel the same way about the police, fire fighters and military.

Eddie,

I agree with you. Doctors will not make a profit prescribing one drug over another to you unless they are then selling the drugs. My daughters partner is a physician, she is a wonderful caring doctor, the profit motive is not what drives her.
