Thought some of you might find this interesting. This dog came into my clinic for a presumed spider bite. After the dead skin was removed, this gaping wound was left. Obviously, the owner was horrified. There was not enough skin left to close the wound with sutures. We had to allow for second intention healing "granulation tissue". These were very conscencious owners and cared for this wound very well, washing it daily and applying vetracin spray. Initially, we kept the dog on oral antibiotics for about 2 weeks. I have seen this many times but am constantly amazed at the bodys ability to achieve this.

Pretty amazing recovery. Thanks for letting us know what a 'spider bite' could be like.

I'm intersted in your opinion of the product "Vetricin". We were skeptical but it dd seem to speed up healing on a wound on our house cat.

I think vetracyn is a good product, but nature (GOD) is a pretty amazing healer by itself.

Simply amazing! On just a hot spot on our elderly lab, our vet had us put confectioner's sugar. I have not looked into the theory behind that, it did very well in healing the abrasion. +1 On God's healing power - our methods are a distant second.

That is astounding.

I have trouble getting the spelling right. I believe it is Vetericyn. I use Puracyn and Microcyn gel for myself. I suffer from poor circulation and stasis ulcers. Those products really improve my healing and comfort. They are expensive, but I think they are worth the money. Oculus is starting to market the OTC products through online medical supplies and retail store chains. I expect it to become more affordable and available in the next year. I believe it has only been in use for less than a year, but I could be wrong.

Here's a link to the manufacturer's website. Vetericyn/Puracyn/Microcyn

Can you elaborate on what actually caused this
condition? was it a bite, or an infection or disease
that caused all the dead tissue?

glad it worked out, but wow, quite a shocker
for somebody I'm sure.

Wow! It is surprising how pups heal, much better than us as they don't complain like we do.

Wow,that's amazing!

I have a bison cow that got raked over by his buddy's.Big patches of raw skin on both sides. Now 2 yrs later it still ain't healed up.
Twice i tried to take her to the butcher but she managed to drop a calf just ahead of time.
I guess she don't want to die ;)
