Anybody had experience with clearing up fogged Headlight Lenses? Apparently if car spends a lot of time outside in the sun. Plastic headlights will get a fog on them. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif This is not moisture. I am looking to get rid of the fog on a 96 Chrysler Town and Country Mini Van.
I have a feeling that some of our tractors will need this treatment in the future.
Here is one product that I have found. Bright Solutions Headlight Resurfacing Kits For our Dial up members. Be aware that site has a video that may take awhile to load.

A lot of people swear by toothpaste as a polish for the scratched (fogged) lenses of a headlight. Also any fine polish like happich semi-chrome or wenol would work to remove most all but the deepest of scratches.

I do not think the Fog is from scratches. But sure would not hurt to try toothpaste to see if it helps. Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It's not scratching but oxidation of the plastic just like the paint on your car without wax. You need to polish that oxidation off of there, even using regular automotive products. Don't use a coarse grit though.

I am not so sure it is just the sun. On my wifes lincoln only the headlight lenses have clouded up, the other ones are fine. Perhaps it is the heat from the halogen lights ?

Eons ago when I was in the US Navy, we learned you could polish scratches out of your watch crystal using Brasso. I bet it would still work. Since I have two very yellow lenses on my Dodge truck, I just may give it a try. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I had a problem with that on the headlamps on my 2004 CVPI
and was able to clean them up pretty good using Oxyclean.
I just made a paste out of it and rubbed it in real good and then let it set for a little bit. After rinsing them off they looked almost as good as new. While the Sun most certainly plays a part in it, personally I think it's just the cheap plastic. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It seems to be more of a problem where there is a lot of hot sun. While doing a search I found a Forum with a Lexus having the same problem.

I believe that is certainly the case. We get lots of Sunshine and heat where I am. Actually, we only have two seasons. Spring and Summer. Another heat related issue is vehicle headliners. After a certain amount of time (usually after the warranty has expired) the headliner starts separating from the foam backing.

I've seen a buddy of mine who owns a body shop buff the headlights of cars (typically Sheriff's cruisers). Not sure what he uses as a compound, but then just is normal 7" buffer.
