Thanks guys,I appreciate the replies.Andy,I've only heard of the Progressive Scan DVD players.What sets them apart from the standard DVD player?As luck would have it,my wife gave me a Toshiba DVD player for X-Mas,but not a Prog. Scan model.This unit will expand the picture from the 16x9 format to the stanard 4x3 picture,a feature not many other players will perform. Mike

The biggest benefit for progressive scan on DVD players is for HDTV. If you still have conventional TV progressive scan is probably not going to make a noticeable difference on picture quality. With HDTV the difference is noticeable.

First off, Radman is right - you won't miss progressive scan without a HDTV - but your wife's gift will work great on a conventional set./w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif I have an DVD player with progressive scan (which Toshiba calls Color Stream Pro) and I never see lines - even in zoom mode.
