Anyone tried this:

Drill a bunch of large deep holes in the stump and fill them with salt peter and diesel. When/if the level goes down, refil. Later when dry, set the stump on fire. The salt peter is an oxidizer and will burn the wood even if no air gets to the combustion. It is pretty awesome thte way the stump just keeps burning and burning till it is not much more than a hole in the ground shaped like a stump.

When I was a kid, I would mix salt peter and sugar 50/50 mix and it would burn HOT. If you listen to the old Navy stories... salt peter will be found in your mashed tators!

Where do you get salt peter???

Haven't looked for any in a long time but used to get it at any drugstore or supermarket (on the drug isle). You might have to look for potassium nitrate.

Be careful buying potassium nitrate in bulk or the folks from Homeland Security will be paying you a visit.

Mornin TwinWillows,
We used to buy it at the feed and grain store when we were kids, we also mixed in some sulphur and boy would that stuff stink ! ;)

I believe I accidently ignited that concoction in my parents basement, oh about 43 years ago on Easter sunday and everyone had to exit the house to air it out  Oh the good old days ! :)

Ill have to remind my Mom and Pop this Easter about that one ! ;)

Black Powder is a mixture of potassium nitrate, flowers of sulpher and powdered charcoal but I am not going to specify the ratio. If you experiment with this be very careful.

I thought that was amonium nitrate, as in fertilizer.
