I hesitate to even bring this up because I don't want it to turn into a this-vs-that thread. I personally have no brand preference so that's not where I'm coming from. This is purely an observation, it might not even be accurate.

But have you ever noticed that if you see a vehicle coming toward you with only one daytime running light burning that chances are it is a late model GM truck? Maybe its just me. But if you haven't noticed, just pay attention.

GM has been using daydime running lamp systems for many years. Its the law in Canada, some would like it to be a law here because of the percieved safty it provides(like a motorcycle), but it hasnt taken off. You can add it on as an option to any vehicle.

The reason that you only see it on GM trucks... ONLY GM uses std. daytime running lights on ALL of its' trucks. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I had also heard it was due to 2 different suppliers one for left side one for right side. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I am not saying that is the actual case, just what I heard. Makes an interesting story when you hear the "enhanced" long versison. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I'm all ears.......

Curiousity might have killed the cat, but I gotta know why we have "left light" and "right light".

Confused, as usual. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Well, I only said I 'hesitated'. Not long though. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But, I brought it up because 1) its a curious thing and wondered if anyone else had noticed and 2) I'm pretty sure the folks here are mature enough to consider it without it turning into a "vs" thread. That's been my experience so far anyway.

I've noticed that too. My question is why the owners don't check and replace their lights because I always see the same trucks with the same lights out. I guess it's an old CDL habit that I do a walk around inspection on my own truck.

Because no one ever taught them to. My dad was never big on vehicle maintenance. I only learned it because I had a motorcycle before a car and would always check my lights for self preservation! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif That has transferred over to my vehicles. It isn't too hard, but nobody is taught to make it a habit. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I've only driven these GM trucks, I haven't owned one where the headlights were on all the time, but I think the daytime driving lights are a dimmer element than the ones you turn on yourself. Unless you did a walk around with the truck running you would not notice one of these being burned out.
If I didn't care for the concept of them being on all the time I would wait until PA inspection made me replace it.
