Lately there's been an awful lot on the news about the various areas in the US that have experienced bad flooding. Has the area in which you live been affected by any of this strange weather?

So far, we are still high and dry here. (knock on wood)

My house is high and dry with just a little seepage from excessive ground water in the basement through the cracks at the footing. Nothing that I can't live with. A dehumidifer takes care of it very easily. It would be impossible to flood me out unless we got 40 days and 40 nights of downpours like Noah did. I'm sure you are going to get a very long list of flooded people on this one.

Here in Central NC we have just had lots and lots of rain - nothing like the poor folks in the North East are getting. Saw in the paper this AM where two truckers were killed in NY when they drove into a chasm where the road washed out. They got clobbered up there.

We were in a bit of a drought but think that has passed. Have had a lot of flooding lately. One of the sewer treatment plants in the area had issues and dumped about 7 million gallons of untreated sewage in the river that feeds two popular area lakes for fishing, boating and skiing. Looks like those lakes will be shutdown this (holiday) weekend. There's a Mall in North Raliegh where the lower level has been flooded a couple of times. The folks East and South-East of Raleigh always get the brunt from the rising rivers - they always take a beating. As stated in another post, some of them are just now getting recovered from the hurricanes a few years ago. Don't think there is a lot of widespread damage, but, know some people were really effected.

I haven't been affected, but I do see a lot of water rising at the rivers and the ground is just saturated with pools of standing water in a lot of areas. We certainly could use a break from the rain for a while, its been a very wet year so far.

This is the first time I can remember interstate 90 being closed over such a span for something other than a big snow storm. The last time it closed a section was becasue of a bridge colapse where people died back in the late 80's.

Many major roads have been closed because of washout recently including Rt 81 near the PA border which runs from Canada to I think down near FL so another major highway.

My place is very near the Delaware. I'm on a hill so not a problem for me but those in town have had 3 major floods like this in the last 2 years. I feel really bad for them. [Some folks use the river homes as second, vacation homes, and they can afford the insurance and repairs, but by no means everyone.] Will try to help this weekend if I can, but most of the towns are fairly well prepared for a cleanup by now.

We haven't had any this year but I do have a lot of sympathy for those experiencing flooding. We had two 500 year floods within 10 years of each other in 1993 and 2001. It rained 54 out of 58 days straight in '93, we didn't think it would ever stop. The Mississippi channel in Burlington runs at 8' with flood stage at 15', in 1993 it crested at 25.1'.

My prayers go out to those going through this, the sun will shine eventually.

We are at the other extreme. Second year of drought. No rain at my place since the second week of May. We are about to go on stage 4 water restrictions (absolutely no outside watering, no car washing with a hose, possible curtailment to some businesses, etc). Ponds are drying up. Lakes are many feet low and ramps are being closed. We had only about half normal last year and are headed the same direction this year.

We are high in the water shed. Water collects from few pastures and comes to our creek and pond. But the creek went from totally dry to 8 feet width - foot deep or so - and everything is totally soaked.

But I am happy, there is nice clean water in the pond, grass in the horse/sheep pasture is growing again - glad the drought is over.

I'm right in the middle of the NY disaster, in Montgomery county. I live on a hill, so no water damage. We lost power, phone and DSL for 24 - 36 hours. I ran the gen set off and on to keep food fresh, and to have water. Our 200' deep well went artisian for several hours and we picked up a bunch of sediment, both are firsts for us, (been here 14 years). The sediment has settled out. A neighbor down the road from us has a year round artisian and another neigbor has full time sediment.

Folks in town were not so lucky, most people within 1/4 mile of the Mohawk River experienced flooding. Everything is closed. The Fonda Speedway is a pond with ducks and geese on the water. Our section of the NYS Thruway was closed for 24 hours.

A big culvert washed out all 4 lanes of Rt 88, 2 truck drivers lost their lives.

You mean like this?

Happens once or twice a year, the pasture goes under by a foot or two in places.....heck i look at it as free fertilizer!
