have to bleed to start

Just wondered if anyone knows why, after my JD 2200 sits a while,(overnite), I have to bleed at pump to get it to start, after started and warmed up , runs fine, and restarts easy, any Idea's, thought maybe fuel cap, but like i satated, i can run it all day, shut it off, start back up, but once it sits for a long while, just turns over , and has some smoke, Thanks, Tim

Might be the fuel line leaking from the tank to the pump, i had a problem with a larger JD doing the same thing and that was the cause. JD fuel lines have been noted for that prob

I agree. Check fuel lines first. What model is it? 2210 possibly? Or is it a 4200 or 5200? Never heard of 2200.

Yes ,its a small 2210, and tnx, i just cant find a leak

Sounds like fuel system is getting air. Sometimes air will leak in very small cracks where fuel does not. Try tightening all fuel line connections and make sure the filter is tight and the bowl is not cracked.

Mine was a fabric coated line and i couldn't find any leaks either, but it did feel wet when you felt of it. I replaced it (pretty cheap even at a dealer) and it fixed my problem.

Replaced all lines, except the vent line that goes under dash, still having same issue, but tnx for the replys

Have you tried turning fuel off at the filter housing when you're going to stop engine for an extended period? Are you sure the large nut is tight on the filter housing that holds the bowl on?? Have you considered installing a check valve to keep fuel from returning to tank via the supply line?

Have never turned off fuel ,unless changing filter,I think the bowl is tight, thought about maybe o-ring is bad on bowl, Never had this problem before, so i wouldnt think i need a check valve, but will try the shut off valve

Update, Talked to dealer, they think it's ignition switch, Glow plugs are wired directly thru switch, on a check, plugs werent being activated while turning key, but worked if wired with a jumper, and started, Tnx everyone
