Kubota 3410 HST. I have top and tilt (tilt for one side pf 3PT only). On the opposite side, instead of a hydraulic cylinder there is a "piston" like rod with a crank to raise or lower the arm on that side of the 3PT. My question is this: is that crank to lower and raise that side only to aid in hooking up implements, and perhaps to adjust the level of the blade or whatever is attached, or is there another function as well which I am missing out on.

Generally...the solid side link lift arm is replaced with the hydraulic link...leaving the manually adjustable side link for additional adjustment...usually a hydraulic side link is all that is needed to adjust most grading implements enough so the manual link is rarely used...

Thanks /pine. I thought that might be it. When I use a blade to tone up the long drive way, I can, of course, tilt it quite far one way and not so much the other way (that is, not too much below level). I make it work to build a nice crown on the drive way by the direction I take as I groom it - letting the end I can really lower work the ditch and of course when coming back up the driveway I again have the lower end on the ditch side.

I have never used the manually adjustable side link that I can recall though I have considered it when I was having a bit of difficulty attaching an implement and getting it all level.

As has been stated, the adjustable link is for convenience. The T&T on the other side takes care of 99% of the need for different lift arm lengths. It is particular nice for using a plow.

The only time I needed the manually adjustable side is when I want to refresh my winter drainage ditches with a back blade. The adjustable link is shortened as much as possible and the Tilt is lengthened to the max. It makes for a nice drain path.

Oh, and one of my seldom-used implements has the lift pins very close to the ground. Since my tractor has a Pat's Quick Connect, the pins have to be approached from below. The manually adjustable link does the job there, too.

Use the manually adjusted link to your advantage. If you want to have equal tilt in either direction with the hydraulic tilt then set the cylinder to the mid point and use the manual adjustment to level the hitch. Obviously you can shorten or lengthen the manual side to change the range of tilt with hydraulic side.

For rear blade work I will usually retract the hydraulic cylinder on the ditch side and then adjust the manual side to level. That way I know that with the cylinder retracted the blade is running level and when the cylinder is extended I have enough tilt to cut a decent ditch.

jenkinsph, thanks. I have never tried to set the blade using the manual adjustment as you describe. I will give it a go when I am next out grading so that I can better learn how to use that to my advantage. It will be in the "doing" that it will start to make sense to me.

I moved my adjustable link to the other side when I got TnT. About the only time I've used it since was when putting in post holes on a slope & needed a bit more adjustment than I could get with hydraulics.
