I use these for my dogs to lay on outside even if it is 20 below zero , boxes / whelping crates with some pine/cedar chips in them or nothing on them , these things are tough the dogs wont chew on them and they are water proof , you could even lay them out in a field or bare dirt and they will keep your animals warm . They are designed for hogs and piglets in mind but they can be used for other applications.
I have never regretted buying these. Long lasting

My extended family has had 6 Maltese and a Bichen frezzy.

They all had food available 24/7 and they took 3 or 4 pieces out of their bowl, carried them about 20' away, spit them out and ate one at a time.
Do that with my lab and he'll eat everything I give him. It could be partially because he wasn't fed properly for the first year of his life and had to forage... off the end of his chain. Yet my last dog was the same way and she was 6 weeks old when I got her.

Yep. We also had two large dogs and a Russian tortoise. And 5 people. And 1 bathroom. 🙃

Fortunately, we were able to keep the dogs in our basement, which also has an exterior exit to a fenced back yard. We didn't have to bring the dogs in and out through the main floor where the cats are. The dogs are very good with their own little cat buddy, but they'd chase the others if they ran.

All in all, it was two very pleasant visits. :)
Basement door with dog door into a fenced yard is the perfect set up IMO. My FIL had that set up at his house in Vermont and thought it was perfect when my wife's yellow lab came to visit.

We have a basement, but it would be cost prohibited due to layout of the basement and the "walk down to" deck out behind the glass doors. We're planning on removing the bottom deck at some time as we never use it, but we already set up a fenced in area off the house separately. Got to walk the dogs out to the fence at our place.

Our adult daughter showed up at our door late this afternoon. She lives a couple hours away, and we were not expecting her. Her eyes told the story.
One of her two big dogs had passed, (cancer) and she was sad. She had come to her home and family to find a final resting place for her "Charlie".

She is out back on the deck now with some friends. Sounds of laughter. Healing.

Oh, the tractor part? I used the bucket loader on the Hurlimann to rough out the hole. About the perfect size.

Bleeding Hearts planted to mark the spot under the tall maples.
After every last dreaded vet visit when we have to put a dog or cat down, they get cremated and go into the corner of the garden.

I haven't done it (yet) but my cousin told of an American Indian friend who's family has always loved dogs. When one dies they bury it out back and plant a fruit tree over the grave, so that the dog will continue to nurture them. This has gone on for several generations, he said that they have quite an orchard.

I buried my first dog 12 years ago, and am likely going to be doing it again within a year. I've started clearing a spot and next year plan to plant some type of apple trees there.
