I feel like an ant getting ready for winter.

Here are some pics from this past weekend.

Went about 60 miles up the road and dropped 6 of the alfalfa bales, then loaded 7 rolls of coastal.

Headed back to the house 150 miles away. Managed to pop two tires at 11:30 last night, had road service come out, and made it back to the house at about 2:00am this morning.

With the severe drought we have had this year, I have been burning up the roads trying to stock pile hay for our livestock. Looks like I will start haying the cattle next week.

Load I had brought in last week 23-5x5-1/2 rolls

Wow, looks like you have been busy!

I am guessing that the semi bringing in the hay is whoever's you are buying from??

Flat tires suck, more so late at night when you want to get home and get some sleep.:(

I took a few pics pic but they didn't turn out. We had about 260 60 lb small squares on the 27 ft deckover trailer behind the ford. Only 5 tier because the 3 kids couldn't get over 2 tier (14 years old, first year haying I'm assuming) The ladies out did the kids and did the wagon to 9 tiers to finish the field in one load. Not quite the 12 tier we had in the past but good job none the less!

I just bought two more running gears, so next year between us and our hmm, hay partners, we will have 8 racks, one 27 ft trailer and one 16 ft trailer. Sheer bliss to not have to share 2 racks like we used to!

The semi hauling the hay belongs to a freight company that I contracted to haul the hay. Hauling 153 miles, the per bale cost for transportation is $17.83.

Not much different than my fuel cost per bale, on a 306 miles round trip. They can haul 23 per load on this truck, if they had a 53 step deck, it should be 38 bales. On my 32' behind a one ton, I will only haul 14 bales.

What brand/model is the bumper pull if you dont mind me asking?

/ Hauling Hay #46
My buddy hauls 16 - 1000 lb bales on two wagons hooked together behind a 2002 1/2 ton chevy pickup up to 7 miles.

I don't know how much the wagons way, but probably 2000+.

JD 5000,

The bumper pull trailer is a Longhorn Trailer made in Emory, TX. I have purchased a half dozen 32' flatbeds from them, a 45' flatbed, and this is the 3rd car hauler/equipment trailer I've bought from them since 2003.

I'll dig up some better pics of the trailer for you, along with the specs. I don't know that they have a model number per se, as I have them build it to my specs.

Only thing I would change on this particular trailer is the quality of the paint. The others have held up real well, but this one has left something to be desired...

20' x 83" car hauler
8" channel frame, 3" channel crossmembers, 2 6k axles, 1 brake axle, 10k drop leg jack, 2-5/16 bulldog coupler, 6" channel wrap tongue, diamond plate fenders, raised floor, treated floor, break a way kit, rub rail, brace in center of fenders, clearance lights, receiver tube in rear, slide in ramps
Total cost = $2690.00 new

not as much weight as some of y'alls but 18 round bales still get your attention going up and down small hills in the field and yes the trailer is way over loaded:D

I didn't get pictures of the two loads I saw yesterday, but I wish I did. The were stopped in Madisonville, Tx at I45@Hwy75

It was two one ton Dodge trucks with 32' trailers. Each truck had 32 - 3x3x8 alfalfa bales. Now I have bought bales in that dimension that weighed anywhere from 750# up to 950# per bale.

When I have my 32' hooked up to a one ton dually, I am right at 15k tare

Those guys had to be running between 39,000# and 45,400# loaded.

If there was a new black dodge dually hes is out of fairfield.I will try and get a picture if they are loaded again when they are leaving out. I gets some photos of mine if I can find some hay(grass rnd).

These were ~2007-2008 silver and white trucks. The silver was a megacab.

I buy some of my alfalfa from a guy in Fairfield, Chad Lancaster. Been trying to get two semi loads delivered for the last month... seems that it's harder and harder to get good quality without having to pay 400-450.00 ton delivered. Same hay was 200.00 ton delivered last year.

I hear that there is also a guy there just out of oakwood that has the small bales of alfalfa,he hasnt been able to get the big bales due to the poor quality hes been finding. There has been alot of 18wheelers coming from the ********* area havent ever cought any stopped,so dont know were its coming from. I do have a number to a guy in bryan that I have bought the big bales from before, havent talked to him since last year if you would like it.

Here is the 5 tons I hauled about 150 miles last year, over Stevens Pass from Palisades to Snohomish WA. Airbags, commercial 19.5" tires on the SRW, exhaust brake and left plenty of room between me and the cars ahead.

I am sure interested in his contact number.I'll be in Bryan tomorrow morning picking up a load of roping cattle and feed, could arrange to pick up some 3x3 bales if I take the appropriate stock trailer.
Additionally, I have a weekend place across from Center Ranch between Centerville and Crockett, not far at all from Oakwood, so if you don't mind sharing the info on the Oakwood guy too, it will sure be appreciated.

Thank,
Chris

Not a great angle but 6 tier of 54 bales/55 bale alternating plus about 20 on the 7th tier. 27 ft deck bumper pull trailer. 50 lb bales. So handy to 350 bales / 17,500 lbs. Trailer weighs about 2500 lbs.

We don't go far on the road. If they hadn't loaded the 20 top bales so far forward we would have loaded the bed with 40-50 bales too.

2.5" receiver on the truck but as you can see the WD hitch is not installed. Gets hung up in the field.

here is a pic in an old thread, of my bale trailer: Since we dont have pickup trucks in Holland, its a tractor drawn trailer but i've hauled trips of 20km with it.
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...d1214581192-home-made-bale-trailer-afb007.jpg

Meanwhile, this "test load" for the photo, is about getting its average load to avoid having to do a 20km trip twice, so i busted two hubs and a tire last year.
Past summer holiday i bought a used 8t tandem on 13/75R16 wheels, to replace the 4t tandem on 10-15 tires. I just had to cut some wheel arches for the bigger wheels ;)

/ Hauling Hay #58
Renze is that wrapped balage? If so, I'm amazed the trailer is still together! That is a load!

/ Hauling Hay #59
Slowzuki, yes you see that right. Its wrapped haylage for horses, quite dry. We like it allmost hay, just before it gets dusty. I guesstimate the bales to be 300-350kg. so these 20 bales is 6 to 7 ton.
Because of the space frame and 18mm waterproofed anti-slip plywood floor, the empty trailer weight is only 1200kg (with the small tandem like on the photo) according to the scales at the scrapyard last summer.
Here is the TBN build description: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/build-yourself/118921-home-made-bale-trailer.html

For highway axles there is no derating when these axles are used in tandem: Agricultural axles can be loaded to 2/3 of the max load when used as a tandem, so i really underestimated the tandem: Twice i busted a hub when turning, the part in which the outer wheel bearing sits, splattered apart, flush with the wheel flange.

The new tandem has 6000 casted into the hubs, so that makes 12 ton: take 2/3 of that because of tandem skidding forces, so i have an 8 ton tandem under it now. :)
With just 1.5 ton empty weight and 2 ton carried by the drawbar, i could load about 8.5 ton, so even wet sloppy bales i could carelessly load as much i can ;) And i made a solid drawbar behind it, to pull another borrowed hay wagon on the longer trips :)

/ Hauling Hay #60
How can you wrap at that light of weight? Here you need to be below 14% moisture or over 35% or so to have them keep when wrapped. A normal big square balage bale weighs 1000 kg or so.
