I heard my first grouse drumming yesterday. My road is getting muddy and rutty, the house is too warm before the kindling wood's gone. Earlier this week we travelled through Vermont on the way back from a quick job in New York; the weather forecast was for "good maple sugar weather; cold nights, warm days."

I guess the "winter that wasn't" is giving out it's last gasps.

Remember what they say up here "in like a lamb, out like a lion",although i dont see it happening. My drives starting to dry,and the frost is slowly coming out.I had a red fox digging moles in the field next to me,thats a good sign. Iam thinking about trying to dig some parsnips yum yum!! My wifes excited,im gonna drag that wire mat,and cover up my driveway,i have to take it up in the winter because its slippery, and for plowing. She hates it when its not there because of dirt tracking inside.Ive actually been raking ,in the early hours when the lawn is still frozen, still alot of snow where i plowed, and frost in the lawn.I have spring fever, and i am very excited about my summer projects coming up.

The grass is getting green, the pear tree is in full bloom, and the pollen is so thick it looks like yellow rain. Yep, Spring is here. It's still fairly chilly though with lows in the thirties and highs in the sixties. It's forecast to warm up next week into the seventies. Fairly typical for this time of year.

Happy Spring!

We had spring in February and early March. The asparagus in the old established bed started coming up. Then last Sunday it snowed. Asparagus spears poking up through snow. Gotta love Missery. I hope the hard freezes are now behind us, but we had one near the first of May last year....after I got brave and put out tomatoes early. I put in the potatoes, snap peas, turnips, cabbage (seed) and onions last Saturday, right before the snow. I already had onions, lettuce, spinach and radishes coming up in one of my rasied beds. Ah well. That stuff can take it. I do hope we're about through with the really cold weather though. The peach trees think we are.

It's here in norte tejas. I can tell. The fire ants are springing up everywhere and so is the Poison Ivy.

We had one of them springtime postcard days today. It was wonderful.

It's here in So CA too. We get 2 or 3 seasonal streams on our property form early snow melt and the rains. Live Oaks are starting to bud and grass is greening up. Time to keep an eye out for the ratllers that come out this time of year!

It's been warmer than average here too. I started plowing on the 1st day of March. On Saturday, I spread 6-1/2 tons of fertilizer on the hayfields. Trees are budding, Forsithia bushes are in full bloom as are the Tulip Poplars and Bradford Pears.

In the garden, I haveonions up, Garlic is green and growing, Kale is looking good, and so is the cabbage. The gravel road back to the barn is getting dusty already.

Why do I have a feeling April will be cold and rainy? (Answer. Because it ALWAYS is around here)

It wouldn't hurt my feelings if it stayed like this all year 'round.

(68 degrees right now, calling for mid-70's by thursday. Not bad for late March!)
