I bought a 14 k trailer with brakes on both axles and I would like to change to oil bath axles seals. This looks like a good way and cheap ? Does anyone have any experience with it or some thing better or is there some thing wrong with it or this type of system? thanks

Can you do that? On a traditional Dexter type axle? I thought they were completely different set-ups.

Instead of going with a cheaper "no-name" brand, I just ordered a 20' (18+2) Anderson low-boy gooseneck. About $700 more than the no name at $4,100 Out the door (Includes TTT). I didn't even price out oil bath axles figuring that would be too much $$$.

Yes, you can convert standard Dexter Style axles to oil bat for about $50 per axle. I have gotten them off EBAY and other sites. The kit includes everything you need including seals and the oil. Runs much better/cooler.

Thanks chris, they looked like the way to go for under $100; I can have 2 oil bath axles and not have to worry with grease, and if I have a leaking seal I should be able to see that the lube is low from just looking. The trailer I got was used ,it is 2001 Anderson 20' gooseneck with deck over, I only use a trailer 8 to 10 times a year.

You might want to call your dealer and check on the price if not too late. I ordered some Dexter axles a year or so back and was surprised how little it cost to upgrade to various options when ordering. For example I found the EZlube zerks to grease the axle bearings only added about $5 to each axle! Looking at some online sources I wouldn't be surprised if the oil bath option only added $30 or so per axle...

Commercial trucks use oil bath ft. hubs on trucks for longevity.
It's no different on a trailer.

I was just reading about these axles and they are NOT recommended for a trailer that sits much, the oil will run down.
here is a picture of the caps

Too late. Picked the trailer up yesterday. But it does have EZ Lube 6K Dexter axles. I'm sure it will be fine. It's a little more trailer than I needed, but I have a habit of buying too small. The Anderson quality is evident in the finish work, compared to the local no-name trailer I was going to buy. The no name was rated 14K, while this Anderson is rated 12K...The Anderson is built with SUBSTANTIALLY more steel and a larger main frame. Go figure.
