why can't they smarten up and make a fan that comes in 2 parts and can be resecured appropriately and a mount that can be slid forward to access the mounting bolts for the fan. Sure, that would raise the cost of the fan to lets say $30 instead of $12, but that still sure beats $675. And in my case, since I had the KTAC insurance, they covered the cost of replacement minus the deductible of $250 of course. Yea, $250 is still pretty steep, but considering the 8 hours that I can't spare, it's worth it. Only thing is that it's been almost 2 weeks now and they still haven't gotten around to looking at it yet :(

I purchased my BX24 three years ago and before I had 20 hours on it I took out the fan with a tree branch. That's when I discovered the value of the Bro-Tech skid plates.

My suggestion would be to purchase both the front and rear plates. I actually removed the u-bolts from the front/back plate assembly. Its more convenient (for me at least) to change out the filter by simply loosening the two front mounting bolts and removing the two rear bolts to drop the rear end of the joined plates. Also, it makes it easier to get a filter wrench on the filter. I can't say, however, if this method is recommended by Richard.

:cool: Been there, done it, got the t-shirt, and it's a pain in the wazoo. It's not fun, not a well spent weekend, not a great way to get to know your BX. There's a gazillion nuts and bolts and screws. You should use a chain fall hoist to lift the engine so it can be moved forward to release the shaft. The floor pan is a trip to get out not to mention the whole fender shroud has to be juggled off the levers and rods. To some, fun, to me, grrrrrrr.:(

:D BUT...... Once you're done you'll be glad you didn't pay to have it done. But it's still a PTA.

Make a belly pan to stop the sticks from poking up into the fan and clearing off the blades. Now that's a task worth every penny and minute spent doing, but hindsight is 20/20.:eek:
