Has anybody here turned up their yanmar 3cyl diesel?

I have a yanmar 3TNV82A-D engine that is rated for about 30hp currently. It was originally sitting in a 2007 john deere F1400 4x4 mower. I have a project in the works that Id like to power with this motor. It will be replacing a 40hp gas motor. I suspect it will likely make the torque of the gas motor, but i sure would like to get some more suds out of it! anyone bombed one of these little guys?

I would put it in it's final place and test it before doing a single thing to it. A horsepower is a horsepower, of course, but the 40 hp gas engine it's replacing likely didn't have the torque curve (specifically, area under the curve) of the Yanmar. If you are in doubt as to the power it may be best to start with a different engine.

You could probably swap that Yanmar for a small block Chevy. That should work.

I could do a lot of things... That being probably the least likely option.

I would take a look at the rpm's of both engines. The original gas engine probably has a lot higher rpm curve, which may be geared for a faster rpm motor. Top end speeds in all gears may take a hit, probably by almost a third or more.
