Bought a 10# box of Stoody 35 about 9 years ago to build up the ripper slots in a Gannon Box Scraper - the rippers are notched on one side, they're inserted in slots in a 6" box beam that's about 1/2" thick, slots are about 1" wide - ripper goes in, pick a notch (depth control), slide a large "bobby pin" in behind the ripper, and (theoretically) it doesn't fall out

Reality - the surface where the notch in the ripper sits, DOES wear, needs to be hard, and has a small area so is a bit tricky to use stick unless you're more of a weldor than I am

Process sorta worked about 9 years ago, I'm a LITTLE bit better now than I was, and still have all but about 4 sticks of the Stoody rod (1/8") - it's been stored in my dry garage, in the original foil lined box, inside a covered plastic tote for all that time - just opened the box, pulled out a stick, and it doesn't look any different than it did 9 years ago (more or less - at least, no rust on the bare end and no sign of coating flaking off, etc)

(finally) the question - I've looked at Victor's stoody site for any info on rejuvenation/storage, etc, and found precisely ZIP, other than I probably shoulda got a different product  Although this worked OK for my purpose -

Sooo, anybody know (1) do I need to bake this stuff out just to be sure, (2) how long/hot? Or, maybe just run some (I'd written "needs 2 passes minimum" on the box, musta been what the LWS guy told me) on some scrap and see how it does (what I'm gonna do if nobody chimes in and doesn't sound like they're talkin' out the wrong end :D )

Floor's open, now "learn me some stuff" :licking: Steve

Just the man (and answer) I was hoping for ;) Thanks for the quick answer.

Price they want for the stuff, I'd have thought it'd be under armed guard instead of "on the shelf"

Guess I'll go find out if I've learned anything in the last 9 years... Steve

Oh I know that stuff is outrageous:shocked:! You'd think it was lined with gold!

It's not Low Hydrogen so treat it like the rest of your rods. If it's dry it will work.

Spiffy :=) Tomorrow looks like it'll be a good day to drag out the tractor the Gannon is on - this'll be only the second time I've run stick since I got the 252 a couple months ago, prob'ly need a slight refresher course anyway... Steve
