Hard time finding a used L3240 or L3540 Grand

I lucked out and my dealer found a "harvest rental" L3540 with 89 hours on it. Maybe there are rental units in your area. This is a pretty good deal as it sells as new with full warranty and is eligible for 0% financing and you save a few thousand over the new price.

I am very close to buying new. I think that this will be a machine I keep for many many years to come. It is just a lot of money to spend and convincing the wife it is the best option has not been an easy task. I think it will be hard to take a nice new shiny machine and put it to work bushhoging and building a driveway.

Here's one way to convince management:
Make a list of all the tasks that you could do with the tractor. Pay special attention to tasks that management thinks are important! So far you have bushhogging and driveway building. Maybe putting in a garden or two or a section of lawn? Then get quotes for doing the work. Figure the recurring cost over 4 years. Subtotal all of that. Then see what a 4 year old L3240HST in good condition sells for and subtract that from your subtotal. You may find you have a very good business case to present to management.

"Good-used-reasonable priced" tractors of this size are encountered rarely, so good luck. My wife and I found one, but were in the process of buying new when it showed up and it was seven years old.

My recommendation is to forget a used L3240. Go for a new one with the latest HST+. What a difference from the earlier HST. I now have 30 hours on my new L3240 HST+ with detatchable bucket on the FEL and I love it. Only negative so far is that it gets very hot on the operating platform. I wear shorts and CROCs to stand the heat. It should be wonderful in cool weather.

Are you still looking for a L3240? If so, and unless it has sold the last few days, Capital Tractor in Montgomery has the one I recently traded in. It is listed for $18,500 I think. It is a L3240 HST3 with a little over 100 hours. It has a canopy, loader, and rear remote. I really liked the tractor. Just felt like I needed one a little larger. It'll make somebody a good tractor.

How about a Grand L30 series? Like a 3430 or 3830? They are basically the same tractor. However I know the the HST models there is some differences. Good luck!

I actually picked up a used L3240 a few weeks ago. Have not got to put too many hours on it yet. But I have really enjoyed the ones I have.
