NH/Ford 1725, 4600 hours, new to me about a month ago. Not sure if these two issues are related or not. If I run the glow plugs for 40 seconds (manual says there’s no timer and to run for 10 seconds, so I cycle for 10 seconds 4 times) the tractor starts up right away. If I run glow plugs for 30 seconds it takes 4-5 seconds to start. No glow plugs it takes… a really long time (30 seconds I’d guess) and will eventually start up. I only did it once, before I troubleshot the glow plugs. The glow plug light doesn’t turn on, but the glow plugs clearly do, to some extent atleast. Outside temperature doesn’t seem to make a difference (95* out today), but once the tractor has warmed up it will start right up without glow plugs.
When it starts it blows a puff of black smoke.
When I accelerate I get a puff of white smoke.
No smoke otherwise.
Other than that it runs really strong, no issues.
Changed the air filter and fuel filter with no affect.
None of the smoke or running glow plugs bothers me necessarily, but I have no idea what it means, but it certainly seems like something (or multiple things) isn’t right.
