Harbor Freight quick hitch

I may treat myself to a Harbor Freight quick hitch this afternoon. Locally only $110.

One Woodland Mills video mentioned that it is compatible with the HF quick hitch.

Got a guy coming to look at the old MacKissic shortly. Sent him my computer files already and found paper files and even a little grease zerk.

How will the quick hitch affect the PTO shaft on my Frontier bush hog? Might it be too short?

Depends on how (long) it was cut originally....

You can buy PRO extensions pretty reasonably. When I added Pat's Quick Hitch I learned my PTO shaft was WAY too short. In fact it had in reality been too short for as long as I'd owned the tractor. I opted to get a new PTO shaft and cut it myself. Mine would have probably taken two or three extensions to get right and I didn't like the idea.

You'll need to make new pins for the draft arms. The ones that come with the QH are 20mm and your draft arm swivelly balls are 7/8"...a difference of 2.2mm. You'll also need to fabricate, modify, or purchase a new top hook which will move the hook centerline back about 1".

Discovered you can get 4" PTO extenders. Might be what I'll need for my bush hog. Can get one online for about $30-50.

Hmm. The HF Quick Hitch adds around 4 inches.

Another possibility for the bush hog is to get one of those quick PTO adaptors. Wonder how many inches they add. Would have it easier to connect that heavy bush hog PTO.

VERY expensive.

Check your pto shaft first, you may not have to do anything.

My length was fine when I added my Titan quick hitch. But I never had to cut my shaft down previously either. It had enough travel to be safe both with and without the quick hitch.

Might be worth the drive to the Agri Supply in Petersburg, Virginia. Their quick hitch comes with the extended hook and they will also have a shaft extender in stock. I don't have their part number for the extender but I bought mine when I bought the quick hitch and it has worked fine.

My brush cutter has the floating top pin. To use the quick hitch on it I just use one bolt on the top hook and raise it up so it can pivot but can't come off the pin. My finish mower requires the fork type adapter which is also available at Agri Supply.

Careful running shaft driven implements on a QH that you don't lower the 3 point too far. The cross bar on the QH will contact the shaft and ruin the cover pretty quick.

Also want to pick up enough cat1 to cat2 and cat2 to cat3 bushings for all your implements.

I was almost decided to get the QH from HF. But I am leaning towards the C1 QH from Tractor Supply. Don't mind paying a little more if the quality is a step up. I believe it is made by the same company that makes the SpeeCo but sold under another brand. They look identical. The good thing is Tractor Supply will deliver to my local store for free compared to Agri Supply shipping it to me for $50. Saves me from having to drive 100+ miles to pick one up.
