We invite our international friends to join us in celebrating the anniversary of our Confederation, July 1, 1867. We are a rather young country, with a small population, only 35 million, and a tendency to reserved in displaying our patriotism, but we are a country proud of our multicultural heritage and many accomplishments.

We also wish our U.S. friends all the best on their forthcoming Independence Day.

And a happy Canada Day to you as well Howard. I've visited your country many times both personal and business. Always enjoyed myself up there. Are there traditions associated with Canada Day like our fourth of July fireworks?

No really significant traditions. It is primarily a family day, although there are lots of planned events incuding numerous fireworks displays. Primarily a day to be laid back.

OH CANADA! I've always thought that the Canadian National Anthem was one of the best anthems for any country.

Can't think of anything much better than to lay back and enjoy the family! Have a great day, and thanks for being such great neighbors! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Howard,

Enjoy your festivities. Unfortunately due to dry conditions in our area, all fireworks (organized and private) have been banned /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif. The kids always love those so that's too bad....but....we'll still enjoy our day.

God bless Canada.

Thanks for the invitation. Please join us in our celebration July 4th. I spent the winter of '99 in the Regina, Saskatchewan area doing some work for SaskTel. I worked with some realy nice people at SaskTel. We traveled to almost every town within 2 - 3 hours of Regina. My co-worker, also from Alabama, and I attracted a lot of attention with our southern drawl. People would hear us talking and and come over and ask us where we were from. They usually guessed Texas. The never guessed Alabama. They were all very friendly people.

Hi Neil:

Yes it is a national public holiday and always a long weekend on the Monday of or before July 1. This is by agreement so that the US and Canadian holidays are not on the same weekend to reduce traffic congestion. Even so the back up at border crossings can be several hours rather than the normal 10 to 15 minutes (post 9/11). Prior to 9/11 there were few delays at the border crossings between the US and Canada except on holidays in either country.
