I alway look at quality from point of view. To some, a pinto was a quality car because it met their need while to others, nothing less than a Rolls is quality. To someone in the 1950's any of today's brands of tractors would seem like a spaceship and by that same token, that which we love today--will shortly be as a 1950 Allis B is today...but in it's day--wow!
My point--"best" is a subjective, subject to change and dependent on opinion.

Any tractor today is a "engineering miracle" by the standards set 50 years ago.

The best tractor for the best price for you is the one that you, as an owner, wants, needs, can afford, has a reasonable reputation, has good dealer and manufacturer support, and you feel is priced fairly to you.

I would add that it has to do the tasks that you need done in the time that you can spend doing them. If not, you have to adjust your finance budget or your time budget.

Gees, I can't believe that nobody has said that my tractor is the best. I just know it's gotta be!

I think this thread has the most 'different' tractors suggested as the "best" without anyone getting upset. Anybody else have a "best tractor"? I think I may have to put in a vote for my first tractor; a JD 650. Or, would that be a vote for a Yanmar?

Hands down it's gotta be the jewell thats found tucked away in an old barn that only needed fresh fuel and a battery to start & run and was bought for nearly nothing

In my case, my great find was a 1966 Wheel Horse 856 L&G tractor that a fellows decendants had found and preactically gave to a dealer to get rid of it. I know it's not considered a tractor per se but in it's literature it is refered to as a L&G tractor
I just happened to pop in just after the dealer got it and it was still so filthy that I was able to buy it and a battery REAL cheap. It was 20 yrs old when I bought it and I've had it another 20+ and it's been the best machine I've ever bought, hands down
I can still finish mow with it but primarily use it to sicklemow areas that can't be finish mowed in the summer and push snow etc with it in the off season. I also use it to provide remote power for hand power tools and to stick weld upto 1/4" steel.
I also use it to pull a couple trailers around which on more than one occasion one trailer was loaded down with atleast 2k lbs of material.
It's a handly little tractor thats hands down my best one
