Could also build a 3pt spear and move two bales at once

I'm thinking the same thing. Wouldn't that be faster and you could move more hay if wanted or you could leave the bale on the back until your done

3-point spear was what I was going to suggest. It wouldn't hurt to have a counter weight for the tractor anyway though. Do both!

I would do more than a 1000 for your tractor. On My little Kioti 35 horse tractor. The manual says about 1060. The loader is good for about 1430. You tractor is a lot bigger. I would start at least near1500. With provision to go higher.

Also very cumbersome and hay isn't always available or heavy enough.

I may build a 3 pt spear in the future, especially if I wind up picking it out of the field or carrying it any distance. Right now what I need to do is stack in a barn where I have limited wiggle room, so an extra 4'x8' bale back there would be in the way.

That's exactly why I built my counterweight with chamfered corners. I wanted to be able to turn and not smack a ton of concrete into something. If you have to move alot of hay a spear is great. When you have to get in a building it's a real drawback.

I help my neighbor move round bales occasionally and when in the field it is useful being able to move two at a time, one on the loader and one on the 3 pt. a couple weeks ago though I was loading them into his barn and a bale on the 3 pt would not have worked. The available space just wasn't enough to have a bale sticking out the back.
