Hand Gun for Wife

I believe overpenetration with pistol ammunition and shotgun slugs can also be an issue. However, if you hit your target, with a decent ammunition selection out of anything, that alone should help slow the round down significantly. In the case of some .223 ammunition, the bullet will tumble and break apart when they hit a person or other object, which is the primary wounding mechanism of that particular round. I wouldn't go blasting away with a .308 for normal home defense, but I believe .223 isn't that much more dangerous if any than other defensive choices, based on various evidence on the 'net, and such.

You have to know which directions are "safe" to shoot in and which aren't. The way my house/property is set up, there are significantly thick woods in 95% of the directions I might have to shoot. Besides the walls and whatever target needs shooting. All neighbors are far enough out of any lines of fire that would be likely that they will be safe regardless what I use.

I think we're getting way, way off the original topic...and, yeah, I helped move it astray
Let's get back to the original subject...the man wants to get a handgun for his wife...

I bought my wife one handgun two years ago (Sig GSR 1911, cuz it was "purty"), I have no idea how many she has now. :D

Shoots better than me too.

I feel very safe at night. :D

A good 12ga. (or 20 ga., if a 12 ga. is just too much gun) is always a good choice for a home defense gun. No need to go thru the house looking for the bad guy; just hold up in the bedroom and call 911 and wait for for the bad guy to come to her. If he does a load of #4 buck shot will do the job nicely. The next couple rounds can have 00 and or slugs.

If you are set on a handgun I would opt for the revolver, S&W still makes thier 'Lady Smith" series I believe nice guns IMHO.

If you and her are dead set on a semi-auto, buy quality, and one that can still cycle the chamber if it is 'limp wristed.' Glock, Sig Sauer, H&K, are the ones I would get for the lady. Sig has some single stack magazine guns and thus have a smaller grip.

The p-230 is a single stack and .380. it will cycle with a limp wrist as my wife has shown.. however it's slide is right on the edge of being too much.. she really likes the slid ont he ruger target pistol... however.. I'd hesitate to leave her with that as a defense gun.. and still perfer her with the t-85 or my smith .. both snubbies in .38sp loaded with +p

shotguns or any long guns are out for her.. she lacks the arm strength to weild them in a target situation.. let along snatching them around in an emergency.. I suspect many ladies will fall into the 'thin and weak' catagory as mine does...

Under severe stress a revolver is obviously the best choice, pull the trigger and pop. Revolvers always go pop even if they are filthy. Unless one spends a great deal of time with an automatic they might have difficulties under stress.

Point and shoot!!!
