Had to laugh, 4WD wont do everything

Heh, this thread reminds me when I managed to get my Ford 1310 4x4 stuck in my garden!

It got stuck in a fresh chicken manure which I was trying to plow under. Had to use a bulldozer to get it out.

The worst part was the cleanup with a pressure washer afterwards...:muttering:

you are a proud father of a 15 yr old adolescent, that should simply tell the story
he needs you to advise him about his experience. you guys are lucky to have each other. the mower is just a machine
happens all the time, even before the 8n
at least no one was hurt :)

When I was 15 I loved mud. I would have done exactly what your son did and head for the mud.

I think I saw this in Off Road mag a few decades ago. "Four wheel drive doesn't keep you from getting stuck, it just gets you stuck in worse places." I've always kept that in the back of my mind and avoided pressing my luck.

I was dumping job site spoils at a dump site in a gravel pit and after dumping and starting to head out got stuck on level ground and didn't sink in at all. I just hit a patch of something that was so slick that there was virtually zero friction between the tires and the ground.

If we are thinking of the same quote, it's stuck further away from help.

There are rare instances I use 4wd, ice/snow, extracting another vehicle, slick ranch road to prevent further damage to the road or launching the hunting boat from an icy boat ramp in Kansas or Missouri.

:D:D I had a F 2wd mower for several years and almost got it stuck in a back wet corner of my rental property where the rain water drained to. I then got a F 4wd and ended up mowing in that rear corner and only about the second time I had used it and got it stuck!!!!! It just loaded up mud on the tires and spun mud every where but wouldn't move forward or backward, it just set on top of the wet and muddy area and spun wheels. Had to get a renter to pull me out with his truck, just the slightest movement got me going again soooooo not the first time your F 4wd has been stuck.:D Only happened the one time, stayed away from that back corner.

If you have never been bogged, you ride on too much asphalt.

When we were kids, we'd do like your Idaho friends did, drive in 2wd, get stuck, get unstuck in 4wd. And then there is the time when shovels, jacks and chains are part of the solution for being inattentive to the ground you're on....

No, that's for sure. But 4WD can get you REALLY stuck. It can also get you stuck in places where few can get, to help you out.
