Gurgling sound ?

Yesterday tenant called saying strange noise from laundry sink when doing laundry… the washer drains to the sink.

Water was everywhere when she returned from shopping while washing a load.

I asked about the lint trap on the washer discharge and she said took that off years ago…

What I found was galvanized scale and packed lint obstructing rotting out the pipe.

The laundry sink is original to the 1920 home so a mix of Galvanized pipe in the wall and Cast Iron under the floor.

Cut the wall open and the galvanized crumbled from the Sawzall.

105 years so I can’t complain.

Any chance you have bird nests built recently in your vent pipes.

I was going to say hornet's nest, but I suppose it's a bit early in the year for that. In any case, drains will gurgle, if a vent tube is obstructed. Time to get on the roof, and make sure they're all clear. I haven't even counted how many we have on this house, but with 14 sinks, 3 showers, 2 tubs, 4 toilets, and 3 laundry rooms... I'd guess more than a dozen.
