There are montane areas in South America that could also be the location.

To me, the boats are very Asian in design. I would have guessed Pakistan or Kashmir, where they have similar hulls.

I believe Kazakhstan is the thought to be the origin for apples, and cultivate an enormous range of apple cultivars.
