That was easy. I simply copied your answer, pasted it into the search engine and Voila! I knew what it was. Unlike you though, that is all that I know about it.

Remember the old keys with the "punchout" around the little hole? Seems like the original car keys had a number stamped in the punchout. My understanding is that code can be "plugged in" to the keymaker which will then duplicate a missing key into a blank. Guess it would be kind of digital pre-digital.
