GT245 electrical problem

Hi guys, very cool site with lost of useful info. I have a GT245 riding mower and every time I engage the blades they come on like they're supposed to but the circut board gets red hot at one of the diodes and starts smoking really bad. Any ideas?

Start off by checking your battery, grounds connections, etc my GT235 did same thing and it was a bad battery.

That makes sense, I started the mower after I checked the wires going to the PTO to make sure there wasn't a rub and while the the jumper cables were hooked up to the battery everything was fine. I left it running and took the cables off to check the volts with a volt meter just to make sure it was charging. About 30 seconds after I took them off the board started smoking again.
