GT1554 Use automotive type fog lamps?

I'm really disliking the headlights on my garden tractor.

Would the electrical support the removal of the stock bulbs and sockets, and replace with automotive 55w driving lights? I was going to fab a bracket, pull out the sockets and front clear plastic lens, and mount them there.

They don't put good bright lights on tractors now a days like the sealed beam headlights my old 66 Bolens has.

If the lighting system doesn't have a relay then you should add one. If your buying new driving lights buy a kit that has the wiring and relay kit with it.

I doubt the factory wiring to the front is large enough for that current draw. You could run your own larger gauge wire and use a relay off the factory wiring as suggested. I would run it straight from the battery to the relay with it's own inline fuse.

I wouldnt use the 55wt auto fog/driving lamps, but would recomend a pair of the round sealed beam lamps you can get thru either wal mart or TSC/Rural King. They use the same basic sealed beam flood lamp that the older cubs like mine use. The mount the same way as a driving light does, and the lamps are shock mounted in the rubber housing to prevent them from burning out so easily. Did you already get this resolved? Another option which is very simple and brightens up your output is to replace the 1156 auto lamps with halogens.

I was looking to improve the lights in my CC 3184 and went to NAPA. They have a # 795 lamp that fits in the same as the stock 1156. I believe they are 50w and when I switch them on the voltmeter gauge changes while running from about 13 to 12.25.

They aren't a focused spot, more like a flood - but a very easy job to do. If I wanted to do more, I'd consider rectangular halogens from TSC (about $15 ea.) and weld them to the 1/4 inch steel front bumper. They were $9 each and worth it to me. I checked several other parts stores and no one else had such an item.
