I mow 2.5 very hilly, rocky acres around my house and have burned out an l130 after just 4 years. Have a chance to buy a 2004 gt235, kawasaki engine, 160 hours, supposed to be in good condition, 48 inch deck, for $2250. Private party sale.

Not a tractor pro and new to this site. Would appreciate comments on whether this machine is up to the job, particularly very steep hills, whether its transmission will last, and how that price looks. I'm in the mid-atlantic region.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

It's a good tractor and would certainly handle it. You would want wheel weights on the back for traction.

The GT 235 is the predecessor to todays X500 and is every bit as good. I have owned both and the the 235 could do everything the X500 could. The only thing missing on the 235 is diff lock, but with either wheel weights or loading the rear tires has very good traction. I mowed some pretty steep banks around my dugout with no issues. The 235 has the TT K71 which again is the predecessor to the K72 in the 500 series and is pretty much bullet proof. With that low of hrs I would think it is a good deal, however up here that would be a steal as JD stuff is pretty much worth it's weight in gold up here.

BTW we mowed 5 acres of pretty rough gopher hole littered land with ours and I sold it for more than I paid for it.
