Hey

I have a small problem to run by you all. I went out to the tractor just to start er up and let er run for a bit since she hasn't been run for a few weeks. No problem there, started fine, but i decided to take a lap around the barn. The GST gear lever was kind of stiff, but it went into first so i pushed er up into forward and nothing happened. i then tried to push the gear lever up into 2nd and it was getting stiffer. I decided it may be frozen since it hasn't been above freezing for a few weeks (seems like months). i didn't have a lot of time to fool with it last night so i just turned on some halogen lights and set them up next to the gear lever and went away. i came back a few hours later and tried again and it did go this time, but reluctantly. and it was still in 1st when i slid the lever back into neutral, that can't be good. So that's where i am. i figure it's just cold, but is there some kind of adjustment that i can make, i'm sure this isn't supposed to happen. I'm sure someone out there can help out. Oh yeah the tractor is a L2650 GST 4WD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jarrod,
Maybe if you give it more warm up time you might find hydraulic fluid well flow better during long periods of starting up times during the cold temps.

If you have a heater block that should help.

Jarrod, I have a L2650 also only a gear. Great little tractor. Yesterday when I went to fire it up to pull my truck back the driveway, it was frozen to the ground with all tires had about two inch tick ice sticking it to the ground. It was covered with a tarp in the driveway the rain sure made it look funny. Hope yours does well when warmed up....

The original GST transmission here in NY when it's cold they are very slow to get working. The newer Grand L-s had some revisions put in and they do shift quicker sooner.

Jarrod, I had a similar experience with my L3010HST during the first cold weather this winter here in MO. I also found that I was still in low range when I should have been in neutral. Additionally the tractor would start when it was in neutral which should not happen.

I checked the fluid levels and wondered if I should have used SUPER UDT as opposed to UDT. I was ready to call the dealer on Monday but decided to pull cover off of the range selector lever. Sure enough, by having the selector lever in the wrong spot and forcing it (because I thought it was cold) the selector lever had been forced out of alignment and was not engaging the three range levers. I put it back where it should be (tap with the rubber mallet) and everything is working fine.

Hope your's is so simple.

Jarrod - I had similar problems with my GST's (back when I had 'em) in really cold weather, too. But I replaced the hydraulic oil with synthetic (Amsoil ATH) and that fixed it.
