P.P.S. Despite the fact that the American branch of my family emigrated as Anabaptists, even 200-plus years later when everyone was called up for WWII there was a tendency to ship people from their area of Pennsylvania (or perhaps particularly my extended family seeing as there were active communications with those of us still over here) to the Pacific Theatre; so I have a whole bunch of American relatives with distinctly German names who grew up landlocked on farms but who nonetheless became US Navy officers who later brought home souvenirs from the Island Hopping campaign!
