I think one is asking for some 'real hurt' if using a nylon rope to pull anything out where the rope might break. Too much energy stored up in the nylon and there is a long history of injuries and deaths attributed to what happens to that energy when the rope fails.

Better to use chain or cable. In my opinion. Much safer.

There are ropes now with high strengths and no energy buildup as they don't stretch like nylon.

Clearing fence rows is bulldozer work that can be done with CUT's with hoes' and toothed buckets. If time isn't critical, then there can be some good seat time using a CUT. But the CUT's are usually not well protected from falling trees, brush, and tanglements of brush, sticks, and limbs on the ground. Can poke at every hyd. hose, the radiator, and the electrical wiring. As long as the CUT isn't used like a bulldozer, then it should work without too much damage.

I would not try and brush hog the fence itself, that wire is no good for the rotary machine. Actually I have managed to get barbed wire cuaght up in and wrapped around the bulldozer tracks. They aren't really very good with wire either. The wire tightens down around their axle ahsfts and can cut the seals to let all the 90 weight out. It is a bugger to get out.

I have been able to mow and destroy the brush up to the fenceline though. If you could mow up to the standing fence, could you then attach to the wire mesh and pull the whole mess of wire and posts into a pile? Fence is expensive. If the fence is still good, then I would try and clear up to it from both sides and then poison the heck out of it anything clinging to the wire.

50 acres surrounded by fence is miles of the stuff. That chore is worthy of a dedicated one time machine rental or contract.

I agree with HB. A dozer rental is fun and after the first couple of hours, it is easy to pick up. To master it, takes longer but you can get the job done. Just notes that with Dozer rentals, contractors usually keep them through the nice weather spells and so they may only have contracted for 30 or 60 days but if weather holds, they will keep them for 60-90-120 days and if you are waiting, oh well...so plan ahead to get a dozer as it is not like going to the store for a quart of milk.

I've ripped out a fair amount of old wire mesh and some 3 board fencing with my dk55 and a grapple bucket. The wire mesh stuff is pretty easy, but the board fencing takes more time.

If you have miles as one post noted, maybe the dozer...

good luck!

Let's do the math. Best case is a square lot of 57 acres, well better is a circle but lets assume square. 57 acres is 2482930 square feet, square root is 1576 feet on each side. 4 sides makes 6303 feet of perimeter fence row which is 1.19 miles.

If the lot was only 500 feet wide it would be 4966 feet deep and 2.07 miles.

Sorry, I'm a dork with a calculator.
