Didn't know if anyone else was growing garden mums, and not sure if this is the right posting spot for this topic but,
This is the first year for me doing the mums, Bought the plugs and planted them payed a little extra to get them pre pinched. I would like to do another pinch to really make a nice plant come September and October. Some plants have two tips now and others have as many as five tips depending on what kind. Do I just pinch each tip back a couple inches??? Any help would be great thanks, here are some pics of the plants. I will try to get a close up pic of what they look like now and how I pinched a couple of them back.

I don't grow them, but I like your setup. Very nice work.

Are these shade plants then? Or is it overcast in the picture?

It was overcast on that day

we just finished up planting our mums today.

you want to roll out the buds and or do a soft pinch, which is just the tip of each branch.

If you cut back past each branch you defeat the purpose of pinching.

another option is to use Florel. Florel promotes branching without the labor required for hand pinching.

Actually, I have gone through years where I didn't pinch or apply Florel and the mums finished beautifully.
