What a great site. I own a BX24 with 260 hours. I noticed what seems like a slight grinding noise or some sort of clicking coming from the front axle area. It only happens when I fully turn either left or right. If I back-off slightly from fully turning the steering wheel in either direction this grinding/clicking noise does not happen. I remember a similar post several months ago but could not find it. Any information would be appreciated and thanks in advance for your help.

Is your front axel low on oil? are you in 4 wheel drive? does it happen on blacktop or grass?

Radioman, I checked all the fluids and greased all the fittings before this last project. I removed 2 stumps 12-14 inch in my son's backyard. I will recheck the fluid levels again when I get back to the tractor this weekend.

Radioman has good questions. Sounds like you're in 4 wheel drive. See if the sound happens in 2 wheel drive.

How about the u-joints on the front axle drive shaft. Would they act like CV joints that usually make noise when under load? I realize the angle is not changeing on them when turning but could the change in torque caused by turning the wheels do this?

just a thought

Thanks for the replies, radioman does have excellent questions, I may go out to tractor before the weekend to check out the suggestions both of you have given. I am not sure about the u-joint location but I do have the repair manual and will look and see if the diagrams can guide me. Can't sleep well when my tractor is sick. Any one else with suggestions is welcome.

I had an "odd" clicking noise this past weekend. One of those, "I've heard that sound before, but was it?" Caught my attention once, and I didn't see nothing from the seat. Went about my business. Happened again, and I still didn't get it resolved. Happpend a third time and this time I saw the left wheel move funny. And then it hit me! Yesterday I changed to turf tires. I drove it up to flat hard ground and found that BOTH front tires were very loose, and the backs just needed to be properly torqued. It's all good now.

does it do this with the mower deck attached? I had that happen on the left hand turns, had to adjust the stops on the front wheels.

Thanks for the replies, I'll check the torque on the wheels, recheck the fluids, and another inspection. I don't have the mmm (yet). The adjustment on the stops on the front wheels seems interesting. What is involved with that adjustment?
