SOARKREBEL,
sometimes i think i am driving a bulldozer, and i get carried away, i was pushing
some tree limbs, and what happened to you, nearly happened to me. one limb
came up, and almost hit me in the face. then back to reality.

<font color=red> must tell you that, originally, this thread was going to be posted in October. The very day I was going to post, Northcreek posted his masterpiece DIY grille guard . (The tongues are hanging out, drooling with envy.) I was so awestruck that I decided not to subject my DIY project to comparative scrutiny with his

<font color=black> Wow.. De ja Vu... I made a grill guard for my NH 1920 a while back.. but after seeing yours.. I'm gonna wait to post mine, to avoid the same scrutiny../w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif.

One difference I chose was to use I guess perferated metal instead of expanded metal.

I mow in a pasture with lotsa tall ragweed and dog fennel, and the stalks are generally about 1/4 to 1/2 inch.. with the older ones obviously a bit bigger. I found that they could get through the expanded metal at the right angle.. and more than a few times i stopped to clean my radiator prefilter to find stalks dangerously close to my radiator. The perferated metal has thousands of little holes .. say the size of a #2 pencel lead. Air flow is fine, but stalks stay out.

Good luck with your front guard... lord knows we need them!

I remember seeing a pic a few years back of a dozer operator impaled through the torso by a small diameter stick about 4 inches by 20 feet. He was pushing brush and had ROPS and a big guard on the blade. The tree bent and broke and then impaled him knocking him thru the back of the dozer and onto the ground. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif After several surgeries he lived but has limited mobility and alot of pain. I too use my loader on my hoe as a dozer but this memory stays in my mind as a reminder that safety must be first (I know everyone gets tired of hearing that) but it only take a fraction of a second to change ones life forever. I'll see if I can find the article but it has been a few years. If anyone else has seen this article their help posting it would be appreciated and benficial IMO.

I bet he didn't think four inches was small....OW!

I'm trying to imagine how the tree could snap back to impail him just pushing it over. Did it catch some other trees to shoot it back at him when it broke? Or was it just a peice of the tree that went flying and nailed him?

I just took out about 50 or so small trees on a terace with the FEL on my L3130. Most of them were 2-3" and a couple 4-5" trees. I uprooted most of them with the tooth bar. There were a number of them that went snap pushing them over though.
