Tractor
Satoh S 370 D
Hello to all! I look forward to picking everyones brains here in the near future. I recently purchased my "teenage dream" tractor, a Satoh S-370D 4x4 to work my newly acquired 2 acre secluded parcel (except for my Amish neighbors). The good news- it runs. The bad- possible bad throw-out bearing/pilot bushing (clutch disengages, but tranny is still spinning), all electrical from alternator, regulator, headlights is removed, and I think the starter just died after I parked it. I'll start working the forums for tips/parts, then I'll dig into it once this storm subsides!

South central PA here...from your post, it sounds like you're getting some lake effect snow.

Hawkeye thinking about going out to plow snow myself in this fun:mad: lake effect crap in western Warren County Pa. You might try jumping tractor first and then see if charging system is working.

When it was running the last time, I put a meter on the alternator and got nothing. For some reason, somebody completely cut off the harness from the alt & regulator. The tractor was rescued from being outside for many years. The person I bought it from began restoration as far as basic function and cosmetics, but he didn't want to dig into the clutch/transmission. If you throttled it down enough, you can change gears, but it's too much of a hassle and I don't want to grind the gears any more than necessary. Its too bad, since I just purchased a 4' back blade last week, could have used that today!!

hawkeye you say it has been setting along time. It is possible that the clutch plate could be stuck to the pressure plate or flywheel. The wiring issues should not be to difficult to deal with.

You can start it in gear with the clutch in. When driving it, you can depress the clutch, apply the brake and you stop. However, motor running, not moving, trying to change gears is almost impossible unless you take the idle down to almost stalling.
