Greetings fro Upstate NY - A backhoe rookie! 1975 International 3500A

Hello everyone - thanks for coming together for this informational forum. As a rookie, I just broke my first hydraulic hose, and it is somewhat buried behind a couple other hoses. ALL of them are original to my 1975 International 3500A and they won't come off. I am soaking them with PB Blaster but it is not the blaster of old by far. Any other advice to break these guys loose?

Hello and welcome! I will leave your issue to the much more capable on the forums. I would love to see some pics of the machine! Maybe even a few of the hose situation would help others troubleshoot.

I will get back out there in the snow today. the local NAPA assures me they can make the replacement but I have to bring the blowout. I thought "easy enough" but then discovered that Superman was the assembler of my unit.

Get, and use, a spray can of "Kroil" (kinda pricey), and keep the PB Blaster for something important..like lubricating your house door hinges.

Assuming you can reach the fittings, try using a long cold chisel with 2lb. hammer, to start moving each hose nut.

Last year I had to replace ALL my 1970 Ford 3400 BH hoses, and the chisel method to start the nuts off was what I did.
Had to use the chisel method to put the new hose nuts on also. That left a chisel mark in each new nut, but the job is done, and none of the connections leak.

Many thanks. I used to remember that PB Blaster showed you how it dissolved a styrofoam cup and was orange - now it looks and kind of smells like WD40. The good news in this is that my delay showed me leak in a separate hose than I thought the leak originated. And I got it loose and replaced!

Thanks bud - man this internet thing goes quite a way! It's a great site. Now, since you are from Down Under, I cannot imagine jumping into my 1975 backhoe after having it sit for a few weeks and not encounter some sort of deadly spider or snake or something like I did up here in the northeast US with a common field mouse. He had beady little eyes, and he was acting all suspicious but nothing like the browns and tiger snakes you guys have...
