I can't seem to reply unless I use the "quick reply". The other one takes me into outer space! I don't mind except I think "quick reply" replies to the original thread when I want to reply to the specific poster. Hope it works better later......

Norm, I'm a computer dummy, myself, so there are many others who can better answer your questions. However "WYSIWYG" = What You See Is What You Get.

Click on "User CP" toward the upper left corner of the screen, then click on "Editing Options" in the left column, go to the bottom of that page to "Message Editor Interface" and select one of the options at the bottom. I changed mine (at least for now) to "Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing".

Now I don't know what I'm doing, except experimenting, so I don't know whether that's best or not, but at least it puts the "Smilies" on the right and gives you lots of options for typing responses.

What you said, in addition to clicking on "Go Advanced" seems to work for me. I'm much too old to have so many options to consider. This is worse than having to decide on medicare drug coverage.
