Great program to defeat browser hijackers

I hate to sound like a commercial but I have found a product that really works. It's called "Geek Superhero". Its a software program that will reset your browser settings to the defaults and then allows only you to change them. It has many other features too. I've set mine up so that a password is needed to install any type of program or make registry entries. It's free to download and try out. After a few hours of use, I liked it so much that I paid the $25 for a license code.

Amazing that almost all of the hijackers, etc target Internet Exploiter. I have used Netscape for 7 years with no hijack problems.

How do you know when you have been Hijacked?

I have used IE since it was born and never been Hijacked or if I have been I didn't know it. Have i just been lucky or just dumb?

Usually when you have been hijacked, your home page will be different. When I was hijacked, my home page (when starting IE) changed from Yahoo to something else about pop-ups. Also, you will usually find new "favorites" in your Favorites folder. When this happened to me, I had favorites listed for just about anything, but they all led to the same **** site. Even if I removed them and reloaded IE they would return. Also, banner ads may be different. For instance, TBN always has tractor related ads, but when they changed I was getting ads for all sorts of things like TVs, pop-up stoppers, etc. I was also getting quite a few pop-ups advertising pop-up stopper software! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Charlie, the previous post describes the situation pretty well. Yes, you might be lucky, but my problem stems from the fact that I have a teenager that downloads junk and visits teen-oriented web sites. I think that is where all the viruses and spyware come from. Recently, my daughter downloaded and installed the latest version of AOL instant messanger. The install program loaded a hijacker that took me five hours to remove.

Ad-aware SE plus will monitor spware actvity and protect some registry entries. Geek Superhero is not a scanner, but it prevents the actions that are commonly performed by spyware and hijackers. I run ad-aware also, but the Geek Superhero picks up where ad-aware leaves off. For example, ad-aware will find and remove some hijackers but does not fix the changes that the hijacker made to Internet Explorer. Geek Superhero fixes the changes and prevents them from being changed again.
