Hey Ken, don't worry about it! Everybody starts sometime, and I can guarantee you that Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods (well, maybe not Tiger), or any of those other guys didn't play very well in the beginning either! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The important thing is to listen to your teacher, stay calm (don't expect those 250 yard drives at least until the 2nd lesson! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif), and ENJOY yourself. Pay attention to learning the etiquette of the game. Your pro will help there too. Believe it or not, I feel good when I have to inform my playing partners that I need to call a penalty shot on myself for something that I did wrong that they didn't even see! I don't mean I feel good about the penalty, but about being honest about it! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Anyway, I hope your wife is joining you in the lessons. It's a great activity for the two of you to do together. And you can play golf for a lot longer than most other sports!

Good luck with the lessons and your new clubs. Do keep us informed about your progress. O.K., O.K. - you don't need to post any scores! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I know what you mean about the honesty of it. It's hard to be proud of a low score achieved by cheating. Well, politicians who shall remain nameless don't have a problem with it but I do.

I'd like my wife to join me, but she has a shoulder problem that will prevent it. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif At least it will give me an excuse to get out with the guys once in awhile.

Thanks again for kick-starting me with the good deal!

Ken
You couldn't be worse than I was and still am.
The students I work with were having a low end tournament to raise money for their projects, so I considered the fee to be a donation.
For practice I went to Three different driving ranges. At one of them they had the rubber pad and they had an area on turf. I used the rubber pad first and then went to the turf,(Shortly after Very shortly after starting on the turf one of the managers came out and politely asked that I leave the turf area.) I could not blame him at all. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
The only other practice was Miniture Golf, and at that my wife usually kicks my butt.
The tournament went well and no one was a poor sport because there were many people that had not played before.
They played something like BEST BALL or something like that.
The real kicker is I won a putter because on one hole it was a gift for the closest to the hole. PURE LUCK Ha Ha

Thanks Doug for the encouragement. I'll find out soon since my first lesson is friday afternoon. I've played maybe 36 holes in my entire life. The last time I even looked at a golf club was probably 5 years ago. A friend and I went to a driving range to hit a bucket of balls. The first ball I hit went a mile straight (pure luck) and some people started watching me. I then proceeded to whiff, top, slice, and shank my way through the rest of the bucket. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I'm pretty sure all the balls in the bucket were defective except the first one /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Been there, done that!!

Just so you are completely ready to get back into the game, here are some other descriptions that you'll probably experience: chunk, chili-dip, snap hook, and worm burner. There are others that don't come to mind right now, but I bet you'll discover them too! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Like we said before. Just go out and have fun!

Keep it down the middle!

O.K. Ken - this is a follow-up! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

You had your first lesson on Friday, August 15th, right?

WELL???????????

How'd it go? How'd you like the new clubs? How many lessons have you had now? How many rounds have you played since then? How many hole in 1's have you carded?

Come on, Ken! Inquiring minds want to know! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Considering where I end up finding my ball sometimes, I probably should get one of those! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Is that what you decided to get to use at your camp? Looks like it'd work well for that! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thats what I was FORCED to buy for deer camp. I say forced because I had to get the Boss something to keep her off MY tractor /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif lol. Its actually a LOT of fun. I had it out behind the house yesterday. It will really go over/through some thick stuff. It was a Lot less $$$ than a 4 wheeler and two can ride on it. Do you like the little truck bed for the drinks and chainsaw ? The way I played gol;f I would have been better off with a ARGO and a Go devil on the back. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif dave

I think it's really cool! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It's a nice size for a utility vehicle. It looks like it'll carry a decent amount of weight/equipment, and you can always add some of those clear curtain type sides to it for protection from wind/rain/cold. You know you can get little heaters that fit in the cupholders up front. The heater screws on to the top of a fuel tank, and the fuel tank fits in the cupholder. I can tell you that it doesn't take a lot of heat to get it toasty in one of those when they're all closed up!

Have fun with and enjoy it! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
