Hello,
I have a kohler 25 command that I am having problems with cranking. The starter will kick in but seems like the battery is dead even though it is not. Sometimes I can get it to crank and run and when it does it runs perfect. No spits sputters or smoke. If I take the plugs out it will crank fast but as soon as I put the plugs back in, it will act like it is dead again. after I try it a few times it will stop altogether and not spin at all, no click no nothing. Could I have a bad/weak starter or solenoid? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I would start with the basics: Have the battery load tested+ service the battery, solenoid, chassis ground terminals. Does your starter have the solenoid piggy backed to it or is it chassis mounted? Once done, you can check for a voltage drop when cranking. You can also bypass the solenoid, but if the power supply is good- more so a starter than a compression release issue on these. For that matter, a known good battery and good jumpers can tell you a lot.

Thank you for the reply. I will check the starter and get some more info. I don't know if The solenoid is piggybacked or not. Didn't really pay attention to it. I will also check for voltage drop as well. The battery is brand new I just picked it up the other day. Thinking I may have gotten a low battery, I load tested it. So I know for sure the battery is good.

do not rule out possibility of valves being out of adjustment this has been discussed at length here the way i figured mine out was i would turn the motor just past compression point hit the key most of time it would spin fast enough to start or stop again at compression point oh by the way i could reach top motor and turn it not sure about yours
