Greasing your Kubota

/ Greasing your Kubota #21
When I go out there, I have disposable rubber gloves, I think the nitrile ones, a roll of paper towels, a couple of 16d nails, and an old cardboard box to use both as a trash can and a reasonably clean place to lay the grease gun down without getting grease all over. Go ahead, put it on top of the greasy paper towels, it won't get lost.

The nails are helpful in two ways. One, they let me push a paper towel into the recess around a zerk to get all the old grease and corruption out, and they let me push hard on the little ball in the middle of a zerk if it is stuck and not accepting grease.

The other use for the box is that it is a good place to pump out a little grease to check and see if the gun is working.

I like those tips enough to copy them and put them on here again. :D

Doc Bob,
I like paper towels and, a nail or screwdriver to clean the dirt away from around the zerk area, then wipe with the towel. Grease until a slight amount is seen comming from the bushing area. Clean the zerk and the excess grease.
By the way I have 4 grease guns and only one of them really works the way it should. Its called a "Leghacy" sold by Gemplers.com, it has a 4 jaw coupler and holds tight to the zerk, and pushes 10,000 PSI, hope this helps.

Curlydaves advice is good stuff. Pretty much what I do, only I'm kind of unorganized about it. I've used twigs to remove grease...

Had a Harbor Fright air grease gun - total junk. Paid $100 for a lincoln, works like a champ. One pump to each zerk now, saves grease cleaning.

And I buy the best/ most expensive moly grease I can find. Its not that much more than regualr grease, and a case has lasted me a couple of years now.

My secret for keeping clean is to use this:

- Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices

Remove the rubber hose and attach the rigid nozzle. Problem solved.

Using my $17 HF air grease gun, I stand way back from the Zerk fitting, arm extended, line up the nozzle accurately, 2-3 squirts in each fitting, and I get away clean. I like to use the pink Wal-Mart grease, because it doesn't stain the hands, cloting, and paint as bad as the black greases.

My HF grease gun is 9 years old, and works like new.

The nails are a great idea. A pneumatic grease gun from Lowes has done a great job in cleaning up this chore. I added a 10" flex hose to it and I don't have to get in tight with the grease gun. The moly grease recommended by Kubota is for a reason, even if you wash out most of the lithium base, the moly doesn't wash out, just like it won't wash off of you. The moly is just as much a lubricant as the oil that is blended in with it.
