Grease on 3PH pins, good or bad idea?

The JD 2520 Manual says to lubricate these areas with JD Super Lube, which appears to be some type of silicone spray as far as I can tell. It's clear, thinner than lithium grease and thicker than WD-40.

when I first got my old tractor it had a weight bracket on it that had been there a long time. took me a couple of hours to get one rusty pin out of the ball without destroying the ball. So I always grease my pins.

Afternoon Bob,
I have been using " Liquid Spray Graphite" LSG. Seems to give some protection without attracting too much dirt !

I use a little anti-seize compound on mine, but think I'll switch to silicone.

(sorry for the "thread-jack" question)
Bob_Young, did you ever spend any time in Lakewood, NJ? Just curious as I used to know a Bob Young that was part owner in a drop zone there.

JD recommends Super Lube (silicone). It's what I use. Greaseless. Works.

I lube with WD-40 and it makes an amazing difference and improvement with attaching implements. The pins slide into and through the balls with ease and allow a little levering of the implements to line things up that isn't possible with the dry pins. Grease is too messy and hard to get into the proper parts of the balls and pins. I just douse them with the juice.

I use a Pat's Easy Change system and don't need to fool with pins and hitch balls. Makes the hook up much cleaner and easier.

I can't imagine having grease on all the pins and balls on the TPH. It would get very mucky when hitching up :p

As for the trailer ball coupling, I got a bit worried when I read the first comment as I always grease ours otherwise it gets noisy. In fact it came with grease from the start.

Having read the other comments, I am less concerned :)

We use tube grease, spray grease & liquid wrench. Fertilizing being our primary business, we are constantly fighting the battle of fertilizer VS steele!

I use Pat's system too but I made sure to put a light coating of grease on the kit pins and a little oil on the balls before I put the hooks on. I hope to never take them off, but if I do, I don't want to have to drive them off.

I also put lock washers on the adjustment screws like (I think) RoyJackson suggested.
