Is there a way to repair a torn grease boot? The tear is only an inch or so long and there must be a solution other than boot replacement or duct tape.

It's a pain, but the only reliable repair is to replace the boot, or be prepared to grease it frequently.

The pain part is the disassembly required to R&R the boot. Just consider the cost of replacing the component you're greasing if it galls.

What kind of grease boot? CV axle boot?

I've seen a redneck fix using fishing line and a curved 'leather' needle.. Worked fine.. looked.. well.. redneck-y

I slipped & stuck a screwdriver through a good CV boot once. After the bout of swearing, I cleaned it thoroughly with brake cleaner, roughed up the boot around the tear & stuck a piece of inner tube over it using contact adhesive. Car passed our MOT test for the next three years!:)

This boot is on a tie rod.Your redneck fix would be harder for me than replacing the rubber. Thanks

I have repaired the rubber boots on joysticks with liquid rubber. The kind that you use to make rubber grips on tools such as pliers and I have also use the kind used to cover electrical connections. I have seen them hold up for up to 4 years out in the weather all the time. I don't know how it would hold up on a tie rod. If you try it just make sure that the boot is cleaned real well.

So have I, but getting a boot that's been used for grease glued is going to be challenging.
Might work temporarily though...

Had you actually specified what the grease boot was that was torn.. we might have given you some taylored advice.

For instance.. on a tie rod.. my prefered mehod of fixing a torn boot is replacement of the rubber.. etc.. it's a no brainer really..
