Last time I used my yard tractor, right before I finished, gray/white smoke came out of the exhaust. Didn't think much about it. When I went to use it again, gray/white smoke, with gas (I have to assume) was coming out...to the point the right front tire was pretty well covered.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

More details, please. Hours on the engine and engine type, does it smoke at start, increase or lessen when running, lessen or increase going on/off throttle. Just over-servicing oil can result in spectacular smoke.

The engine is a Kohler. 13 HP, I believe. Lots of hours, as I've had it 5+ years and bought it from someone. The smoke starts when I started the engine. I didn't let it run long before turning it off.

:welcome:
Maybe some ideas would come with a bit more info.
Kohler in what tractor?
What has the history been for the 5 years? Engine performance leading up to the smoking? Oil changes? Gas history? Old or new gas?

Done a compression check? Looked at the plug for telltale evidence? Age of plugs? Time since last air filter and fuel filter change?

Yeah more info please. Also what were the conditions? Outside temp? Sitting all winter? Does the engine have any history of oil use, etc?

Engine has been great until this, no history of oil use. Starts everytime, runs fine, gets the job done. Just serviced, new fuel filter, I cleaned the air filter today before restarting it. I had just finished mowing my yard, then my son's yard and as I finished was the first time I saw the problem. It worked great all summer. This is a John Deere STX 38 Hydro.

Does this lawn tractor of as yet unknown pedigree - have a radiator?

Check the oil level as described in the manual. It may be over-serviced if you just changed it. I say this only because I did it myself. Slaughtered mosquitoes for miles.

oil level is where it should be. Also, I had used it a couple of times since the servicing, without this being an issue.
