Hi all,
I've looked at a gray market tiller and I'm not quite sure what "brand" it is. It has no name in English except what I think is the model number: RS 1351. It is painted orange and has "s" shaped tines that are about 1 inch wide. Anyone heard of it and what should it cost. BTW, it is about 4-4.5 feet wide.

thanks-jesse

I beleive it is a Yanmar tiller. I have one and it does a great job. If the tiller is in good shape it should cost in the $250-400 range. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That sounds like the Model number I saw on a Kubota tiller last month. Does yours have a large oval cover on the side, weigh abut 400#? I was able to find one for just over $400.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to buy it for about $300. The only bad thing is that it does not had the PTO shaft. I am going to our local Agri-Supply to purchase one. Is there a unique pto shaft for this tiller or will a "regular" one work? I will be using it on the Shibaura SD2803 T tractor (approx 28 hp).

If you can, I would recommend that you take your tractor to the tiller and make sure that it will hook up without the rear tires hitting the front edge of the tiller. The grey market tillers hook up strangely and while you do have a grey market tractor, there is no guarantee that you will be able to hook the tractor and tiller together without some modifications to the tiller. About the PTO shaft, make sure that the shaft on the tiller is a 6 spline just like the one on the tractor and you will not have any problems finding a shaft.

I second what Brent said re hooking up the tiller to the tractor to verify that the tines won't make contact with the rear wheels.
In addition, when you align the tiller so that the tiller shaft is horizontal, you will be able to make an accurate measurement of the distance between the tractor PTO and the tiller PTO shafts. Yuo will need to purchase a shaft that ideally installs into the gap, with enough extra length to slide out and engage the locking pins to the shaft.

I purchased the tiller before I read Brent's reply /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. Now I have a problem connecting the tiller to the tractor. The distance from the overriding clutch on the tractor to the shaft on the tiller (grove to grove) is 14 inches. I could not find one short enough at our local Agri South store so I am having one specially made. Is it normal to have such a short shaft connecting a gray tractor to a gray tiller? Tractor is Shibaura SD 2803 T and the tiller is an RS1351 (orange color, no manufactor).

I'm fairly sure your tiller is made by Yanmar with that model number. I've heard many similar problems, but no personal experience. John

I have a 1401 Yanmar with a 4 ft. two point tiller. You will have to remove the overriding clutch before it will fit. I have a quick connect overriding clutch that slips over the pto shaft . It is very easy to take the clutch on and off. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Did you try it without the overrun coupler? The only thing you need the overrun on is a bush-hog. A tiller is fine without it.

I had to cut the length on the PTO shaft before the 48" kubota tiller would fit to my 1500D Yanmar tractor. It was quite simple. I made the measurement with the tiller attached to the tractor, then took the PTO shaft down to a local shop where they cut the shaft with a chop saw. Works great now.
