i just bought a 272z with the daihatsu 31hp turbo. 850hrs. was fleet maintained but it has a heat problem. yesterday was 96'f here and runs above 220'f to about 230'f. does not boil over and looses no coolant but makes me very nervous. screens are clear, oil is full. according to the manual 3600rpm is operating speed. if i pull it back a little it will gradually cool down to 220 or so. it never overheats but what can i do? anyone have any experience with this mower?? thanks, mark

Is the radiator clear of debris? and your gage could be off

radiator is clear, i did put my infrared thermometer in a couple of places and the gage was pretty close to right.

may go quiz the local dealer today. thanks

A good grade of antifreeze will raise boiling point, make sure you have it in there
could you have a kinked hose and when was it flushed out last and whats it look like in the radiator? some things to consider
:)

Have you asked the previous owner about it? and I wouldn't expect a totally accurate answer  but you may get one and the oil will not lower your temp very much at all

was owned by a texas university, who knows who drove it, but they probably sold it because it runs warm. i give them credit, at least they didnt drive it till it blew!!!

i ran it this morning, low 80's out, and i cut the throttle back a little from the 3600rpm recommended operating speed. it got to 210f and stayed. i can live with that!!

anybody else own one of these??? thanks, mark

Too much antifreeze in the cooling system can also cause this. Antifreeze doesn't disperse heat nearly as well as water. A 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water is the norm but here in Texas you don't need that much antifreeze.

i usually run it so it doesnt freeze in the winter time on that ocassional 15f day. i agree with you about the heat disapation. thanks
