I just bought a used grasshopper 321d midmount. I am about to change all the fluids and I read in the manual to only use grasshopper brand hydraulic fluid . This fluid is $15/quart and it takes 5 quarts ($95)! Is it really necessary to only use grasshopper brand hydraulic fluid? If it is I would rather spend the $95 than have to replace a hydraulic pump in the future. Any information is greatly appreciated. Also if anyone knows a good place for new or used parts for the grasshoppers that would also help.

Thanks

Try here for parts. The Mower Shop, Inc. - Home Page

I don't know on the hydro oil since I haven't changed mine yet (322D) but like you said 95.00 is cheaper than a motor.

I used to have a Grasshopper 616. I went through the same thing. I recall that either the book or the dealer said that you could use some kind of Mobil One synthetic in place of the Grasshopper oil. Problem was, there wasn't anybody around that had that, so I ended up buying some of the Grasshopper stuff from the dealer. Luckily, in my case, it was just a little low, so I just bought one quart.
